How Burlesque Saved Christmas: A burlesque play by Jade Esteban Estrada

Oh, dear! Oh, dear! For an unknown reason, the weather outside is so unusually frightful that Santa Claus (aka Daddy Christmas) has announced that Christmas has been cancelled due to the sudden climate change that has frozen the world over. The sexy villainess behind it all is none other than Sarah Suckame Slanders, an evil, Christmas-hating scientist who specializes in study of weather manipulation. On a rampage of revenge, she’s discovered a way to welcome a new Ice Age with the intent of cancelling Christmas forever. Valiantly, the people of Christmasland, Texas put their heads together to fight back. But what could possibly be hot enough to melt so much ice before Christmas Day? Burlesque could be the answer. Join burly heroes Sugar Bum Larry, Geri Mann de Ring, Teddy Bare, Bear Lee LeGaul and Eva Needzerspooge as they join forces to save their favorite holiday with a little help from the legendary Heat Thighzer. With only moments left before the big day, there’s only one question on everyone’s mind: “Is burlesque hot enough to save Christmas?”

A Lullaby for Ryan: The History of HIV/AIDS in America

A Lullaby for Ryan: The History of HIV/AIDS in America is a solo musical comedy created and performed by solo theatre artist Jade Esteban Estrada. The production, commissioned by the Diamond Foundation, made its world premiere at Metropolitan Community Church of Omaha in December 2007 in Omaha, Nebraska in observance of World AIDS Day.

In the play, Estrada channels characters such as Rock Hudson, Miss Protease Inhibitor 1996, “Boobs” (AKA the Bubonic Plague), and a mother of three named LaShonda to illustrate courageous and poignant stories of triumph.

world-aids-dayWorld AIDS Day takes place on the 1st December each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day.

What others have said:
“Jade is the real McCoy. He performs with exquisite skill, versatility and aplomb. Bravo!” – Professor Owen G. Mordaunt, Ph.D.- University of Nebraska – Omaha School of Communication

“It was just great! Jade is an amazing talent!!I was surprised at the balance of entertainment and educational value. His characters and charisma carried the audience through some of the major moments in the 20+ year history of HIV/AIDS, which was based in historical fact and presented with feeling and humor. I appreciate his support of Project Kindle and look forward to seeing future performances!” – Brenna Salzbrenner, former Program Director, Project Kindle

Sinderella and the Glass Zipper

A new adaptation by Jade Esteban Estrada

Practically enslaved and in rags, the boobalicious Sinderella lives with her wicked stepmother and two jealous stepsisters who try to keep her from attending the royal burlesque ball at Pink Taco Palace. Although her fairy godmother magically makes her wish of going to the ball come true (“A twerk is a wish your booty makes!”) and helps her to win the heart of the “shagalicious” Prince Charming, who’s having trouble with his glass zipper, the beautiful Sinderella must face the wrath of her stepfamily when her godmother’s magic spell wears off at midnight. This comedic burlesque fairy tale reminds us that a good girl is just a bad girl who’s never been caught.

Half variety show, half musical and all entertainment, “Sinderella and the Glass Zipper” is the fourth burlesque adaptation written by Jade Esteban Estrada, formally the playwright-in-residence at Prohibition Theatre in Houston, Texas. Past credits include “Tales of a Hard Nut” (a burlesque adaptation of “The Nutcracker”), “The Masque of the Red Death” and “Eat Me,” (a burlesque adaptation of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”). Original burlesque narratives include “Hollywood Havana” (Perth Fringe World Festival) and “How Burlesque Saved Christmas” (Gibson Guitar Lounge at Maggie Mae’s).

The show stars Natasha Pearl, Melissa Weltner, Bruce Vayne, Dan Calderon, Jordan Kayall, Femme Les Jules, Blaise Ricin and features Jade Esteban Estrada (as seen on Comedy Central, Bravo TV) as the narrator and stars Austin-based burlesque star Coco Lectric (New Orleans Burlesque Festival’s Queen of Burlesque 2010) in the title role.

Tobias The Adequate

Magician! Comedian! BOMBASTIC GOOFBALL!

Tobias the Adequate  is the “Persona au Gratin” of entertainer Matthew Legare – the product of close to two decades of improvisational and interactive performing at hundreds of fairs, festivals, markets and other events throughout California, Nevada and Oregon

Tobias is part magician, part philosopher, part hero, and mostly a loud fat man in a series of outlandish hats and costumes, armed with an arsenal of magic and rapid-fire wit making him both amazing and amusing, often at the same time!

TobiasPoster

Matthew Legare has been performing pretty much as long as he can remember – getting his start as the “substitute sheep” in a local church’s Nativity Play by virtue of being the only kid small enough to fit the costume.

As a somewhat more mature fellow, Matthew graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Drama and set out to make his fortune in California in 1992.

Sadly, someone else had already made it, so he instead set out to learn his trade at the numerous Renaissance Fairs and festivals up and down the state.

The Tobias the Adequate Show made its first appearance at the Marin Heart of the Forest Festival in 2001, and there’s been no sign of it stopping.

Matthew has also appeared at events in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and now back in his home state of Texas, bringing his unique blend of comedy, magic, improvisation and confusion to a growing number of amused and bemused audiences with a show which is, by his own admission…
