The Overtime Theater Seeks Help Celebrating Winter Holidays

The Overtime Theater in San Antonio, Texas is looking for unproduced plays celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza or the New Year—any celebration during winter holidays and the start of a new year. Your play can take place at a holiday celebration (such as a murder mystery where everyone is gathered to celebrate the holiday). The Overtime Theater will consider traditional, quirky or non-traditional holiday tales. We have a history for offbeat and unique productions, so all ideas will be considered.

We accept submissions of all lengths—short plays, one acts, and full-length plays. We have two spaces available in our theater, and we can tailor our program based on the submissions received.

Our limitation in our performance space is that we can fit 10 performers onstage maximum. No fly system or trap door is available for special character entrances.

Please format your submissions in Word or PDF format. We appreciate a list of characters with a brief description of each, and a short summary of your work within the first 3 pages of the submission. Applicants should use the title of the play as the name of the document.

The Overtime Theater accepts submissions from writers in the United States, Canada, and other English-speaking nations, but gives special attention to writers from Texas. The show does not have to be entirely in English, but we need to get the meaning if it isn’t.

The Overtime Theater is an all-volunteer organization and compensates playwrights with one equal share of donations in our tip jar at the end of the run.

Submissions should be emailed to theovertimetheater@gmail.com. We accept submissions year-round, but any submissions to be considered for the 2022 season should be received by 11:59 pm CST on September 30, 2022.

Please send any questions to theovertimetheater@gmail.com and we will respond as soon as possible.

San Antonio, TX (Feb. 8, 2022) – The Overtime Theater in San Antonio, Texas is seeking new works from playwrights who self-identify as women, transwomen, or nonbinary individuals for its 2022 New Play Development Series. The chosen play will be given a staged reading at the Overtime Theater on March 10 in celebration of Women’s History Month. The script submissions window is open from Feb. 8, 2022 until 11:59 p.m. Feb. 19, 2022.

Though full-length plays are welcome, the Overtime especially seeks previously unproduced one-act plays that require one to four actors, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. The chosen play (or plays) will be given two rehearsals and one staged reading, which includes an audience feedback session.

Devoted to producing new and original work, the Overtime is particularly interested in bold, innovative plays from across the female spectrum that are both provocative and entertaining.

For environmental reasons, the Overtime Theater is unable to accept script submissions delivered by mail or in person. Only submissions in a Word document or PDF will be considered. Applicants should use the title of the play as the name of the document, followed by the full name of the playwright. One play per applicant. The Overtime will accept submissions from writers based in the U.S. or Canada.

The Overtime Theater, an all-volunteer organization, compensates playwrights with one equal share of donations to our tip jar at the end of the play’s one-night presentation.

Submissions should be sent to submissions@theovertimetheater.org. Attn: Jade Esteban Estrada, artistic director. Deadline is midnight Mar. 12, 2022.
